Eleanor (Williams) Ludwig, 88, of LaJose and a guest of Colonial Courtyard, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at Colonial Courtyard, Tyrone.

Born Sept. 12, 1925 in Irvona, she was the daughter of Blair and Pearle (Hamer)            Williams.

She attended DuBois Area Schools and was a 1942 graduate of CI. After graduating from the Pittsburgh School of Business, she was employed by Dr. Cohen in Pittsburgh.

She later attended Hixon’s School of Floral Design in Ohio. She was employed by the former Morroni Floral Shoppe.  She had also been employed by The Progress in Clearfield.

She was the deputy county treasurer for four years. She went on to be the Clearfield County chief clerk for eight years.

She was the first female to hold the office of Clearfield County Commissioner. She held that office for eight years and retired in 1995.

She was very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Republican Women, the Clearfield Community Concert Association and many other Clearfield area organizations.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren and the many years spent residing at “the farm” in LaJose.

She was a member of the Glen Hope United Methodist Church and attended the Mahaffey United Methodist Church.

On May 24, 1947, she married Robert C. Ludwig, who preceded her in death on Dec.17, 2004

She’s survived by three sons, Daniel Ludwig and his wife, Kay of Philipsburg, Jerry Ludwig of Altoona  and Barry Ludwig and his wife, Lisa of Annville; a daughter, Judy (Ludwig) Miles and her husband Kevin of Glen Hope; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Robert Williams of Dubois.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Glen Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. John White officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fruit Hill Cemetery, Ansonville.
