Summer Reading Program Wraps Up at Shaw Library

CLEARFIELD – The final week of programming in the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program at Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library offered informative and fun programs for youth.

On Tuesday, Kathy Jacobson, Hilaree Liegey, and Jim Richtscheit of Clearfield Bank & Trust Co. shared stories with children and educated the adult audience on banking and financial literacy. This program supported the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative.

School Age A and School Age B participants had an exciting week of science-themed activities. Attendees set their bodies in motion enjoying outdoor games on Wednesday and joined Carey Huber of Parker Dam State Park for a sensory awareness program on Thursday.

On Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m., participants of all ages are invited to the final Family Fun Night of the summer. “Family Fun Night: Look Out!” will require families to work together to solve clues and complete the scavenger hunt in the downtown Clearfield area.

Following the scavenger hunt, there will be “Sundaes on Monday” and the drawing of a door prize. Those families interested in this event should contact the front desk of the library to reserve a spot by July 31 at 9 p.m.

The library would like to remind readers of each age category to log all books and minutes by Saturday at 5 p.m. to qualify for incentives. Summer reading participants should visit the front desk of the library to redeem earned prize entries and Super Stars.

The youth summer reading store, “The Laboratory”, will have hours from Monday through Aug. 2. Youth participants may stop in during the library’s regular business hours to cash in Super Stars on available items or enter to win the grand prize drawing.

The library is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. Additional information is available by calling 814-765-3271 during regular business hours, visiting the Web site at www.clearfield.org/shaw, or by following Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library on Facebook.
