BROOKVILLE (EYT) –The family of a missing woman who jumped out of a moving car along Interstate 80 near Brookville says new clues indicate she may have hitchhiked.
Yesterday, the family brought out a fresh dog team to the Jefferson County barn where 37-year-old Susan Bachman, of Centre County, discarded her cell phone and wallet. From that location, the trailing dog tracked her path to Route 28.

Local Police Officer Honored for Efforts in Aggressive Driving Enforcement
CLEARFIELD – Patrolman Nathan Curry of the Clearfield Borough Police Department was recently honored for outstanding efforts in stopping aggressive driving.
Annually, police departments participating in the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement Project are invited to nominate an officer who has demonstrated his or her ability to identify and arrest those who speed, run stop signs, tailgate or perform other aggressive driving actions.
Blueprint Committee Thanks Curwensville Borough Council for Allocation
CURWENSVILLE – At last week’s meeting, the Curwensville Blueprint Committee expressed appreciation to the Curwensville Borough Council for the recent allocation of funds toward the community project.
While at an all-day training session at Clarion University on July 9, the committee learned there had been 626 responses on the community perceptions survey in June, reflecting an excellent community involvement. It was noted that Grampian/Penn Township will have additional survey forms available in the near future.
Kenjora’s Shooting Case Discussed at Motions Court
CLEARFIELD – The case against an Osceola Mills woman accused of shooting her home care nurse was discussed recently during motions court in Clearfield County.
Marlene W. Kenjora, 71, 2637 Ashland Rd., Osceola Mills, an inmate of the jail, is charged with criminal attempt/criminal homicide, three counts of aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm into occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person and two counts of simple assault. She remains in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
The charges stem from an incident in Decatur Township on Dec. 6, 2012 when Kenjora allegedly shot a psychiatric nurse in the head as she tried to call for help. The nurse was able to get to a nearby residence where she received assistance and an ambulance was called.
Judge Denies Motion in Curwensville Man’s Sexual Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville man given a lengthy state prison sentence for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy asked for a lower sentence during motions court in Clearfield County.
Richard Coy Bennett Jr., 51, 550 McDivitt Rd., Curwensville, pleaded guilty in June to statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse/person less than 16-years of age, sexual assault, corruption of minors, indecent assault and sell/furnishing liquor to a minor. He was sentenced by President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to a total of 15 to 30 years in state prison.
The charges are the result of an incident at Bennett’s residence on March 24, 2013 when Bennett sexually assaulted the boy after giving him alcohol.
Benches Donated for Downtown Clearfield
CLEARFIELD – A memorial bench dedication ceremony for Gerald “Jerry” Read was held on May 30 in Clearfield.
The bench was purchased by his classmates after his tragic death in the Naval Shipyard shooting. The bench reads: “In Memory Gerald Read CHS Class of 1973? and contains a plaque that reads: “Jerry, an Eagle Scout, died a hero on Sept. 16, 2013 at the Washington, D.C. Naval Shipyard.”
The bench has been placed by the Clearfield County Courthouse in recognition of Read’s service to the country and government.

Judge Denies Motion in Gun Store Burglaries Case
CLEARFIELD – A DuBois woman who allegedly assisted her husband in burglarizing local gun stores is asking for her bail to be lowered.
Nicole Elaine Moore, 24, is charged with criminal conspiracy/burglary, criminal conspiracy/criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy/theft by unlawful taking, criminal conspiracy/receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy/criminal mischief and theft and receiving stolen property in relation to the burglary of L.B. Toney’s Alamo Gun Shop in DuBois and two burglaries of Bob’s Army & Navy Store in Clearfield. She remains in jail in lieu of a total of $125,000 bail.
A motion to lower her bail was discussed during motions court recently. Her attorney, Douglas Campbell, told President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman that Moore’s mother said she’s always worked and cared for her children. She can’t believe Moore got herself into this type of situation. Moore lives in the area and is not a flight risk, he added.

PASCO, Wash. — Former Clearfield Area High School and Clearfield American Legion Post 6 standout pitcher Chad Zurat didn’t have to wait long to make his professional baseball debut after being signed by the Colorado Rockies and assigned to the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Class A Short Season Northwest League.
House Passes Bipartisan Highway Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) voted to support H.R. 5021, the Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014.
It authorizes funding to address a looming shortfall to the Highway Trust Fund (HTF) and extends federal surface transportation programs through May of 2015. It passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support by a vote of 367-55.
“This bipartisan agreement ensures stable funding for the Highway Trust Fund so critical investments in infrastructure can continue during these critical summer months,” stated Thompson.
Clearfield Police Turning the Heat Up on Aggressive Driving
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Borough Police Department has teamed up with the Clearfield Fire Department and Clearfield EMS Inc. to take a stand against aggressive driving.
When a crash occurs, members of these emergency services respond to the scene. Often, these crashes happen as a result of aggressive driving, which puts the lives of these men and women on the line to respond to an incident that could have been prevented.
Last year in Clearfield Borough, more than 67 percent of crashes were attributed to aggressive driving. Of those crashes, more than one third resulted in some type of injury.
LT Supers Approve Novey’s Expansion Project
CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors approved the proposed expansion project for Novey Recycling at Tuesday night’s meeting. The project was approved by the township’s Planning Commission and Zoning Board.
According to Mike Boal, manager for Novey’s, the project is now waiting for finalization of permits from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Boal said topographical surveys were used in the planning of the Novey site expansion.

Pitching three innings for the Tri-City Dust Devils in Pasco, Wash., Sunday night capped a wild, whirlwind weekend that began early Friday afternoon when the summer accounting intern was sitting in the Clearfield office of Little Pine Resources.
PSP Seize More Than $18.3M in Heroin and $3.8M in Marijuana for the Second Quarter of 2014
HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan today announced troopers seized more than $23 million in heroin, marijuana and other prohibited drugs in the second quarter of 2014.
“Governor Corbett has tasked the state police with getting these illegal drugs and drug dealers off the streets and away from our children,” said Noonan. ”The state police will make every effort to identify, prosecute and imprison drug dealers,” said Noonan.
In the second quarter of 2014, troopers seized more than 24.5 kilos of heroin and more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana with a combined approximate street value of more than $22 million.
Clearfield Man Waives Hearing in Sexual Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of sexual assault waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Kyle Andrew Wilson, 20, of Clearfield has been charged with statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault. He’s incarcerated at the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on May 28, Clearfield Borough police received a report about an alleged sexual assault. Further, the alleged victim, a 14-year-old girl, told police she’d been sexually assaulted by Wilson.
Blueprint Communities Survey: Clarion Borough is a Safe, Clean Town with a Rich Heritage
CLARION – In May and June 2014, the perceptions of 445 individuals who work, sleep, eat, shop, study, worship, or own businesses or properties in Clarion Borough were recorded as part of the Blueprint Communities Perception Survey.
“The survey was the first step in the team’s commitment to gain community input,” said Carol Lapinto, a Blueprint Communities core team member and president, Clarion Borough Council. “The results give us a clear idea of what community members believe are our strengths and our challenges.”
Motorists Alerted to New School Zone Signs in DuBois City
DUBOIS – PennDOT alerts motorists to a change in roadway signage that will take place next week in the city of DuBois.
School Zone signs will be placed on Route 219 (Liberty Boulevard) and Beaver Drive near the DuBois Area Middle School.
The signs were requested by DuBois City and DuBois Area School District. A traffic study was conducted by PennDOT to allow for placement of the signs.
WJAC-TV: Official: Malaysian Plane Shot Down Over Ukraine

KIEV, Ukraine — An adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister says a Malaysian passenger plane carrying 295 people has been shot down over a town in the east of the country.
Anton Gerashenko says on his Facebook page the plane was flying at an altitude of 10,000 meters (33,000 feet) when it was hit Thursday by a missile fired from a Buk launcher.

CLEARFIELD – A new scholarship fund has been established with the Clearfield County Charitable Foundation to honor Janet McCracken Hansard.
Hansard passed away nine years ago and for some time the family has been planning an event to honor her memory.

Specialist Adds Culinary Kick to Event, Sharing Delicious Recipes with Local Home Cooks
CLEARFIELD – Taste of Home, the world’s most popular recipe and entertaining magazine, will bring its national program, the Taste of Home Cooking School to the area in the coming months.
The cooking school, which is featured in about 350 select communities each year, will be held Sept. 20 at the Expo II Building at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds. The event is being hosted by Visit Clearfield County, GantDaily.com and the Fair & Park Board.
A culinary expert with Taste of Home will present cooking tips and tricks while demonstrating step-by-step seasonal recipes.
Clearfield Borough Awards Bid for Third Street Sidewalks
CLEARFIELD – Last night, Clearfield Borough Engineer Todd Banks of Stiffler, McGraw and Associates Inc. opened seven bids for a curbing and sidewalk replacement project on Third Street.
Most companies offered base bids and alternate bids. Banks explained the base bids are for traditional construction in which the curbing is installed separate from the sidewalk and alternate bids are for the newer method of constructing the curbing and sidewalk together in one cement pour.
