Final Week Nears for Summer Reading Program

CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library’s “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program presented a number of exciting events for youth and young adult participants.

Pre-schoolers made a snowstorm in a jar and School Age A youth designed a robot using a tin can and craft materials. School Age B and young adult participants joined artist Diane Maurer in making a sheet of recycled paper.

Although the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program is quickly approaching its end, the final week of programming will offer entertaining and engaging events for its participants.

Youth of all ages are invited to join representatives from Clearfield Bank & Trust Co. on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. “Elements of Today’s Banking” will educate families on several important components in the banking world.

School Age A and School Age B participants will enjoy outdoor activities, including parachute fun, in “Our Bodies in Motion.” This program will be held Wednesday. On July 24, School Age A and School Age B adolescents will also participate in “Sensory Awareness.” Presented by representatives from Parker Dam State Park, this program helps youth experience the world using their senses. Both events begin at 10: 30 a.m.

Read-to-Me, School Age A, and School Age B participants are reminded to submit Super Stars earned between July 14 and July 19 into the weekly prize drawing sponsored by Ritz Theater by July 19 at 5 p.m.

Additionally, the summer reading store, “The Laboratory”, will have hours on Monday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on July 25 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. Youth participants may stop in during those hours to cash in earned Super Stars on available items.

All books and minutes read this summer must be logged by July 26 at 5 p.m. “The Laboratory” will have hours available between July 28 and Aug. 2 for all participants to redeem earned incentives.

Registration for the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program concludes on July 26. All registrations are completed online at the Shaw Public Library’s Web site.

Participants are asked to pick up their registration packets at the front desk of the library upon registering for one of the programs. Children ages birth through pre-school age should enroll in the Read-to-Me program.

Youth who have completed kindergarten through the second grade are encouraged to participate in the School Age A program and those who have completed the third through fifth grade will enroll in the School Age B program.

The Spark a Reaction young adult summer reading program is open to anyone who has completed the sixth through 11th grade, and the Literary Elements adult summer reading program is available to all adults, including 2014 high school graduates.

The library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.
