Obituary Notice: Robert Ray Reader

Robert Ray Reader, 81, of Hawk Run died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, University Drive campus, Pittsburgh.

Born Jan. 2, 1933 in Tyrone, he was the son of the late John and Dena (Snyder) Reader.  He married the former Ida Irene Rech on Nov. 26, 1955 in Winchester, Va.; she survives in Philipsburg.

Mr. Reader was Protestant by faith.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion.

He was a truck driver for many years. He then worked as a cabinet maker for his father-in-law, Julius “Gus” Rech, of Gus Manufacturing of Osceola Mills until retiring.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Reader; a granddaughter, Alicia Reader; two brothers, Alfred and Roy Reader; and a sister, Dorothy Dillon.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Reader is survived by a daughter, Peggy Custred and her husband, Tom of Smoke Run and five sons, Don Reader of Lake Worth, Fla.; Dan Reader and his wife, Tracy, Steve Reader and his companion, Roxanne and Rob Reader and his companion, Cindy, all of Houtzdale; and Bill Reader and his wife, Olga of Miami, Fla.

He’s survived by a brother, Fred Reader of Altoona.  He’s also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the chapel at Windy Hill Village, 100 Dogwood Dr., Philipsburg, with the Rev. William R. Walker officiating.

Mr. Reader’s family will receive friends from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday at the Windy Hill Village chapel.

Military honors will be accorded by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
