Obituary Notice: Eleanor Marie Matea (Bungo)

Eleanor Marie Matea (Bungo), 79, died April 23, 2014 in Key West, Fla.  Born Dec. 4, 1934 in Colver, she was the daughter of the late George and Clara Bungo.

On Oct. 6, 1956, she married Charles “Buzz” Matea Jr. of Ramey, whom died Dec. 21, 2001.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Matea III in September of 1984.

She’s survived by a daughter, Karen Richards (Paul) of Goldsboro, NC; a son, David Matea (Virginia) of Key West, Fla.; a brother, Henry Bungo (Loretta) of Broomall; two sisters, CarolKitko (Robert Sr.) of Houtzdale and Clara Nebinger (Chap) of Kittanning; two sisters-in-law, Emma McCully of Ramey and Florence Broberg of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Caitlin, Christopher, Stephanie, Samantha and Sabrina; and five great-grandchildren, Samaria, Daniel, Willamena, Malia and Samiah.

She was a 1955 graduate of the Philipsburg School of Nursing. She retired as a nurse and dedicated caregiver. Over the years, she and her husband, a 20-year U.S. Navy veteran, were stationed at [ck1] Lakehurst, NJ; East Greenrock, RI; Key West, Fla. and North Keystone, RI. She returned to Key West, Fla., where she worked in the Naval Hospital and the Florida Keys Hospital as a Certified Navy Occupational Health nurse. Following retirement, she resided in Ocala, Fla.

She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala, Fla. where she enjoyed volunteering.

A funeral mass was held on April 28, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church and she rests at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
