Andrew Harkless, 84, of Akron, Ohio died Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Summa Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
Born Jan. 4, 1930 in (South Philipsburg) RD Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Carlisle and Josephine (Hugg) Harkless.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth (Bryan) Harkless, who survives at home. They married on Sept. 8, 1950 in Osceola Mills.
Mr. Harkless was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting in his free time. He and his family often vacationed in Philipsburg when his children were younger.
He could be seen carrying a shepherd’s staff with numerous children trailing behind him on their way to Little Dutch Swimming Hole. He was employed by General Tire and retired after 40 years of service.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Dullen and Janet Hummel; two brothers, Charles and Duane Harkless; and one granddaughter, Sara Baer, his beloved Angel.
In addition to his wife, he’s survived by three daughters, Ruth Ann Baer and her husband, Michael “Mike,” Gloria Escajeda and her husband, Richard “Rick” and Mary Jane Beck and her husband, Alan, all of Thomasville, NC; a son, Andrew L. Harkless and his wife, Donna of New Philadelphia, Ohio; two brothers, Donald Harkless and his wife, Mary of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Richard Harkless and his wife, Barb of Akron, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. William Fowler Officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg.
