Hobby Garden Club to Hold Flower Show

CLEARFIELD – The officers and members of the Clearfield Hobby Garden Club will hold their 55th annual flower show.

The show will take place July 19 at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church in Westminster Hall, 119 N. Second St., Clearfield. The show will be open from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

There isn’t any charge to enter the flower show.

This year’s theme is “The Movies” and will be presented in honor of Lois Rougeaux, a life-time member since 1981.  There are three classes a part of the flower show:  horticulture, adult arrangements and children’s arrangements.

The horticulture class has five categories, including 1-A tea roses; 1-B other roses; 1-C Zinnias (any zinnias); 1-D Dahlias (any dahlias); and 1-E lilies (any lilies).

The adult arrangements class has 21 categories with movie titles, including:

The judges for the flower show are Jan Petrosky and Mary Jo Gomes, both of DuBois, and Gina Hepburn of Penfield.

There will be refreshments and door prizes at the show. Music will be provided by Pat Witherow; Duane Test will share floral arrangement tips; Carrie Baublitz will discuss heirloom gardening; and Janet Billotte will educate on how herbs can affect health and make life easier. The Susquehanna River Art Center will provide floral and garden paintings for viewing.

Booklets containing all show information, rules and entry form will be at these locations: Clearfield Agway, Clearfield Florist, Tammy’s Garden, the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, Curwensville Florist, Curwensville Feed Store, Flowers by Jill in Curwensville and Gary Williams’ Beauty Shop in Philipsburg.

Pre-entry forms are available and included in the booklet. Forms should be completed and mailed to Jane Hollis by July 1.

By pre-entering, entrants will already be registered and entered in the show. Tags will be prepared for pre-entrants to pick up when flowers or plants are brought in on July 18 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. or July 19 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

There will also be entry forms available at the flower show. Once entered, tags will be made for the entries. All arrangements must be registered, tagged and placed on the judging tables by assistants by 10:30 a.m.

Judging begins promptly at 11 a.m. and runs until 12:45 p.m. All arrangements arriving late will not be judged but viewed on another table.  Arrangements can be unloaded at the back of the church for easy entry into Westminster Hall.
