Obituary Notice: Florence R. Clever

Florence R. Clever, 101, of Monroe, Ohio, and previously of Clearfield and Kittanning, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, Monroe, Ohio.

She was born Aug. 11, 1912 on the family farm in Armstrong County. She attended Dayton High School and Indiana Normal School, now Indiana University, Indiana, Pa.

She and her husband, the late Rev. A. Claude Clever, served Presbyterian churches in Florida and Mercer County. They served the Curwensville Presbyterian Church from 1944 until 1964 and then the Upper Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church until his death in 1968.

During these years, she taught fifth grade in Curwensville and Tyrone. After his death, she settled in Clearfield and taught fifth grade at the Plympton School until her retirement. During this time, she was a member and elder in the Clearfield Presbyterian Church.

In 2003, she sold her home in the Golden Rod home development of Clearfield and moved to Colonial Courtyard. Then, she moved close to her daughter in Ohio and lived at the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village Assisted Living in Monroe, Ohio for the remainder of her years.

She is survived by her son, Charles Claude Clever and his wife, Kay Sundback Clever; her daughter, the Rev. Eloise A. Cowherd; her grandchildren, Dirk Claude Shaffer, Joel Clever (Kim), Kelly Clever and Derek Clever; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Julieann Shaffer.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie and Charles W. Runyan; her brother, Fred Runyan; her sister, Mary Stewart; her daughter, E. Loraine Shaffer; her son-in-law, Frank Shaffer; her grandsons, Kent Lloyd Shaffer and Bart Merrill Shaffer; and her great-grandson, Kyle Shaffer.

A service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church with visitation for one-hour preceding the service. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Concord Cemetery, Dayton.

The family would like to request no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clearfield Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
