LOCK HAVEN -Six Lock Haven University students recently set sail with Dr. Joe Calabrese to ports in Erie, Put-in-Bay, Ohio and Alpena, Mich. for a field experience course like no other.
Through hands-on learning, students will study the interactions between humans and ecology in a natural setting, tracing the science, history and policy of the great lakes from Lake Erie to Lake Huron, then on to Lake Michigan.
Students will be sailing from June 10until July 4aboard the U.S. Brig Niagara, a 19th century replica naval vessel.
The flagship has served as an educational sailing program setting since it first set sail in 1990.
While aboard the ship, students will be taking water samples, trawling fish and dissecting them and learning lake science.
