HYDE — Sawyer Rowles hammered a three-run double for the game-winning hit and Thomas Summers drove in four runs with two doubles and a single to pace Clearfield past Clarence 13-3 in Central Penn American Legion League baseball action at the Bison Sports Complex Friday night.
Summers ended the make-up game in walk-off fashion with his two-out run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rowles and Curt Collins set up the Mercy Rule finish with back-to-back doubles.
Summers’ two-run double highlighted a five-run outburst that put the Chiefs in command, 11-3, after four frames.
Rowles’ bases-clearing, two-strike two-bagger with two outs in the second inning broke a 1-1 tie after Summers, Josh Kennedy and Logan Lykens received free passes.
Cole Kephart also had a pair of doubles in a three-hit effort, while Zach Timchak chipped in two singles.
Brandon Orsich was the beneficiary of the Chiefs’ 11-hit attack, posting his second victory. The right-hander struck out four and allowed one walk, seven hits and two earned runs.
Clearfield (4-4) will take a three-game winning streak to Beech Creek Monday and then host Philipsburg Tuesday.
