Library Kicks Off Summer Reading Program

CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library kicked off the “Fizz, Boom, Read!” summer reading program with a show by M&M Magic.

M&M Magic entertained a packed house of more than 150 youth and adults. Following the program, summer reading participants had their first chance to get a glimpse of the events for the remainder of the summer months.

Additionally, all registered participants who picked up their summer reading packets between June 16 and June 21 were entered into a prize drawing to win a T-shirt.

A number of exciting activities are planned for participants of all ages over the next several weeks. Youth of all ages are invited to the “Great Bug-tacular Game Show” on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with puppeteer Adam Swartz.

According to Swartz’s Web site, all in attendance will “help puppet contestants and audience volunteers play a variety of exciting rounds of games about bugs. Meet new friends and learn interesting bug facts. Audience members will interact with Joe and his friends as they work together to play the game.”

Read-to-Me participants will make a “Colorful Treat” on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Children will experience a world of colors and make a tasty treat. “Build an Insect,” for youth in School Age A, will be offered June 25th at 10:30 a.m. Using craft pieces, youth will design their own bug to take home.

Events for youth participants wrap up for the week on June 26 at 10:30 a.m. Renee Johnstonbaugh of AmeriHealth Caritas will present “Healthy You, Healthy Me.” The program aims to increase physical activity, as well as improve nutrition through smart snacking and increased consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Young adult summer reading participants should contact the library to sign up for “Meet the Author” with local author, Samantha Boulton. The first YA program of the summer will be held June 26 at 2 p.m. Boulton will discuss the writing and publishing process. Call the front desk of Shaw Public Library at 814-765-3271 to register.
