PENFIELD – Officials at the Parker Dam State Park have announced its program schedule for June 27-29.
Friday, June 27
Night Sky Tour
9:30 p.m. – outside CCC Museum
Man has been inspired by the night sky since the beginning. Join us as we try out the park’s new telescopes during this month’s dark of the moon! Take in the beauty, as we learn some of the summer constellations and the legends that surround them.
Saturday, June 28
The Earth as a Peppercorn
3 p.m. – Beach House steps
How big are those planets? How far away are they? Create a scale model of the planets on the beach and learn how it all really looks.
Matchless Fire
7:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Come and learn how to start your campfire without matches (or lighters). Traditional methods of creating fire will be shared, and our evening campfire will be started using these methods.
Environmental Songs Sing-A-Long:
8 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Bring your singing voice along and learn some fun, and meaningful, environmental songs. Song/lyric sheets available to take home.
Sunday, June 29
Tea and Talk
7 p.m. – Beach House
The talk will be teas, and a few trees, and perhaps more. Bring your own mug for some of the park-grown Sweet Fern tea, and then relax and have an informal discussion with park naturalist Eric Rensel (who is back working at the park again) about a few trees – in particular Hemlock and Ash.
