Month-long Bridge work to Bring Detour Near Coburn

STATE COLLEGE – Work to replace a bridge on Route 2018 (Woodward Cave Road) will require a closure, starting Thursday.

When work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from Centre County’s structurally deficient list and area drivers will enjoy travel across a modern structure.

Once the bridge is closed, a detour will be in place. PennDOT‘s official detour will use Route 2018, Route 2011 (Coburn Road), and Route 45. Drivers familiar with the area may choose to use alternate routes. The closure and detour is expected to last through July 18.

The current bridge spans an unnamed tributary of Pine Creek just east of the village of Coburn in Penn Township. The 19-foot bridge was originally built in 1916 and carries an average of 125 vehicles each day.

PennDOT Centre County Maintenance will perform this replacement work, which is weather dependent.

Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow detour signs, and as always, buckle up.
