CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Career & Technology Center’s Practical Nursing students participated in the 26th annual Clearfield Penn Highlands Children’s Health Fair on May 6.
Approximately 220 fourth-grade students from area schools attended the fair. The CCCTC nursing students helped plan and execute educational and health-related stations for small group learning activities.
The health stations included were:
- Disabilities – Children gain a knowledge and appreciation for those with disabilities.
- Nutrition/Exercise- Children learn to take a pulse, do healthy exercises, make wise food choices and are given a nutritional snack.
- Drug and Alcohol Awareness – Children learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
- Germs and Hygiene – Students learn about germs and how to correctly perform hand washing.
- Healthy Vegetable Gardening – Students learn about planting and growing your own food.
Prior to the event, the nursing students got donations to purchase a girl’s and boy’s bike for a drawing from all of the participants. Merchant donors were “The Bio-Salon,” Philipsburg, and “Antonuk’s Sanitation,” Clearfield.
Bike winners were Aaron Bowery and Alexis Bumbarger, both from Clearfield Elementary School. All participants received a small goodie bag and memory/puzzle booklet for attending.
CCCTC Nursing students and faculty have been participating in the Children’s Health Fair for the past 22 years.
The nursing students would like to thank the following organizations and persons who helped make this educational activity a success: Clearfield Penn Highlands (environmental services, auxiliary volunteers, dietary and laboratory department), the Clearfield Area School District’s elementary principals, transportation department, staff and fourth-grade faculty of the participating schools; the Clearfield Hobby & Garden Club, the Children’s Health Fair Committee and judges.
