CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the fugitive as Nicholas Joseph Peo, 38, of East Logan Avenue, Altoona. Peo was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Monday.
On April 26, Officer David Scott Johnson of the Sandy Township police filed a criminal complaint against Peo. He charged Peo with retail theft.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Feb. 21, police received a report about several thefts from businesses located in Sandy Township. Upon investigation it was found that Peo had unlawfully removed items from multiple stores.
Then, Peo sold the items at a pawn shop in Huntingdon. The stolen items were valued at approximately $789.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 23, at which time Peo failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shaw stated that an anonymous tip to the Clearfield County Crime Stoppers provided the location of Peo. On Tuesday, deputies from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Peo in Altoona, and he was taken into custody without incident. Peo is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance with this case.
