CLEARFIELD – Last night, the Lawrence Township Supervisors opened six bids for the proposed paving project on Mill Road.

The bids were: D&M Contracting Inc., $725,000; Glenn Johnston Inc., $675,179; Greenland Construction Inc., $544,935; DJ Wisor & Sons, $550,355; RH Bailey Construction LLC, $579,058.50; and Glen O. Hawbaker Inc., $814,996.

The supervisors tabled a decision on awards pending review of the engineer and solicitor. They directed the secretary to check availability of reserves on paving funds. Supervisor Ed Brown noted the bids are much higher than anticipated, and they may need to rebid the project.

Fire Chief Elliot Neeper reported the new fire engine is being detailed and will be in service by mid-July. The supervisors agreed to a maximum of $5,000 for necessary additions.

Police Chief Mark Brooks reported the new police vehicle is being fitted with equipment, and should be in service by mid-June. Brooks said part-time officer Brian Lockwood resigned to take other employment.

Roadmasters Brown and Dan Mitchell reported work has progressed with preparations for paving projects and repairing storm damage and pot holes. Brown said work started Tuesday with the sewage project.

Mitchell noted Code/Zoning Enforcement Officer Debra Finkbeiner is overdue for a 90-day job evaluation and due for a six-month evaluation. The supervisors agreed she’s doing excellent and approved a 3 percent pay increase, as proposed at hiring and bringing her pay to $12.50 per hour.

Secretary Barbara Shaffner reported the township’s Act 13 funding allocation is $778,558.91. She noted it’s $58,560 more than anticipated.
