Lawrence David Woods, 67, of Black Moshannon died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
He was born Nov. 12, 1946 in Philipsburg to the late Merle Howard and Alice Jane (Albert) Woods. He was a 1964 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School.
He worked at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview as a machinist trade instructor for 23 years and retired in 2008. He was a board member and volunteer for the Philipsburg Historical Society.
He was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, genealogy, working on his many projects, spending time with family and friends and was a good conversationalist.
He enjoyed building race cars for multiple classes throughout the years. He and his friend/driver Spencer Husted won many point championships with their favorite No. 30.
On Jan. 18, 1965, he married Margaret Joanne Meek. They enjoyed 49 wonderful years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he’s survived by his three children, Cheri Woll and her husband, Ken of Boalsburg, Laurie Slebodnik and her husband, Rick of Lilly and Larry Woods and his wife, Dawn of Black Moshannon and nine grandchildren, Joey and Rachel Woll, Matthew and Katie Cimino, Lindsey and Ally Slebodnik and Taylor, Noah and Cole Woods.
He’s also survived by a sister, Bonnie K. Ondo and her companion, Dave Butterworth of Chester Hill; a brother, Lynn A. Woods of Black Moshannon; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth L. Meek of Tyrone. Many other family member and friends will miss him as well.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with Pastor Tina Hawkins officiating.
Burial will follow at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday.
