Velma Jane Fleming, 89, of Grampian, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at her residence after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 12, 1924 in Curwensville, she was the daughter of Clark M. Bunnell and Olive (London) Bunnell Myers. Mrs. Fleming was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. the Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, as well as the St. Theresa’s Guild of the church.
On Aug. 23, 1940, she wed James Clair Fleming, who preceded her in death on July 13, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Violet; two sisters, Mildred Myers Panasitti and Mabel Myers Peoples; and a brother, Richard Bressler. She was the last member of her generation.
Surviving are six children, Prescilla Habovick and her husband, Donald of Howard; Judith Fleming and James C. Fleming Jr. and his wife, Andrea both of Grampian; Nancy Fleming of Bradenton, Fla.; John Fleming and his wife, Carol of Wexford; and Debra DuFour of Martinsburg, W. Va.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Monday when the procession will depart for the church
The Rosary will be recited by members of St. Theresa Guild at 2 p.m. and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
