PHILIPSBURG – U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) recently visited Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg to discuss current federal legislation issues impacting seniors and to participate in a question-and-answer session with residents.

Thompson’s visit was a result of conversations he and his staff had with Windy Hill Village Executive Director Chad Evans during the 2014 LeadingAge PEAK Leadership Summit held March 17-19 in Washington, D.C.

The summit provides an opportunity for chief executive officers and leaders of aging services organizations to network and learn best practices from their peers.

LeadingAge is comprised of 6,000 not-for-profit organizations representing the entire field of aging services. LeadingAge members from 36 states scheduled more than 300 meetings at the summit to discuss a variety of topics related to aging services, including Medicare/Medicaid, affordable senior housing, home and community-based services and the future financing for long-term services and supports.

Windy Hill is a member of LeadingAge PA, which represents hundreds of Pennsylvania not-for-profit organizations that provide seniors with housing, healthcare and community services.

“Congressman Thompson has always supported our efforts to provide the best care and facilities for our residents,” Evans said. “We appreciated him visiting Windy Hill Village and spending time with our residents to answer the numerous questions they had on federal issues involving their Medicare benefits.”

A life-long resident of Howard Township in Centre County, Thompson was first elected to represent Pennsylvania’s Fifth District in 2008 and sworn in to his third term in 2013.

Prior to being elected, he spent 28 years as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager and a licensed nursing home administrator. As a result, he understands first-hand the importance of access to quality healthcare and has become a strong advocate for increased access, affordability, quality of care and patient choice.

“This is a prime example of why it is so important for LeadingAge PA members to visit their representatives during the PEAK conference each year,” LeadingAge PA Senior Vice President and Chief Public Policy Officer Larry Clark said.

“Chad had a great discussion with Congressman Thompson in Washington, D.C. and we’re thrilled the congressman accepted his invitation to visit Windy Hill to talk about issues that are so important to its residents.”

Thompson’s visit to Windy Hill Village took place on May 23.
