OSCEOLA MILLS – PennDOT expects to re-open the Osceola Mills truss bridge this week.
With crews currently working on final items of the repair project, PennDOT plans to re-open the bridge sometime in the late afternoon of Wednesday.
Once the bridge is open, the official detour will be lifted. The bridge spans Moshannon Creek in Osceola Mills along Route 2051 in Clearfield County and Route 3049 in Centre County.
When the repaired bridge is re-opened, PennDOT will remove it from the Clearfield County list of structurally deficient bridges.
Repairs to the bridge began last June and proved to be more extensive than originally planned, requiring crews to work well into the winter months.
The bridge was temporarily re-opened over the winter months and then closed again for final work.
Work has included major structural repairs, hydro-demolition of the deck, roadway excavation, drainage, construction of approach slabs, curbing and sidewalk placement, roadway paving, a latex deck overlay and miscellaneous items.
The bridge was originally built in 1932, is 113 feet long and carries an average of 940 vehicles each day. Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion has been the contractor for this $1.2 million job.
PennDOT thanks area drivers for their patience during this closure and reminds drivers to obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
