Community Center Dance
On Friday, May 23 during Curwensville Remembers, there will be a Community Center Dance hosted by Curwensville Area School District alumni. It will feature “Party of Six” from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. Refreshments will be available; there is a $5 cover. All proceeds benefit the Community Center for adding air conditioning.
Curwensville Remembers Cemetery Lantern Tour
Participants will meet at the gazebo at Oak Hill Cemetery at 8:45 p.m. Friday, May 23 to enjoy a lantern walk to hear from the spirits of Bucktail Leader Colonial E.A. Irvin, the first settler, Paul Clover and numerous others who will speak to their part in making the community. The lantern tour will be held weather permitting. The Curwensville Rotary Club will sponsor a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 24. Registration is $25 and will benefit the Curwensville Rotary’s community project fund. Last-minute registration will start at 8 a.m. at DMS Safety Services, 100 State St.; the race will start at 9 a.m.
Curwensville-Pike Township Historical Society
If you’re passing through Curwensville, you’re invited to stop by the Curwensville-Pike Township Historical Society table outside the Strawberry Tree Shop & Tea Room between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24. It is an opportunity to connect with town heritage and plan your next visit to the Korb House Museum.

There will be various displays and vendors by the Strawberry Tree Shop & Tea Room and the Community Center on Saturday and Sunday. You can stop in local merchants to check out Memorial Day weekend specials. There will also be a $1,000 giveaway raffle hosted by Gates Hardware.

Clearfield Bigfoot Day, CAST
Saturday, May 24
Both the main CAST building and its annex will be the scene of informative talks by Bigfoot experts, vendors with Bigfoot merchandise and a Bigfoot movie Mountain Devil – The Search for Frank Peterson, which was filmed in the Rockton Mountain area.
The CAST Building is located at 112 E. Locust St. in downtown Clearfield. Doors will open at 10 a.m. The talks and movie will both take place in the theater at the CAST while the vendors will be set up in the annex.
Tickets for the entire day of events, which include both speakers and the Bigfoot movie, are $6. Those who want to attend either only the speakers or only the film can purchase a $3 ticket. Tickets can be reserved by calling the CAST office at 814-765-4474.
Speakers are experienced Bigfoot researchers and belong to and are active in organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society, Legend Hunters, the Center for Unexplained Events, the Center for Cryptozoological Studies and the Mutual UFO Network of Virginia.
The speakers have been guests on radio, television and featured in newspaper and magazine articles. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers, as each will have a question-and-answer period.
Speakers will begin at 11:15 a.m. in the theater with Brian Seech, who will speak on Cryptids. He has more than 30 years of experience investigating paranormal and cryptid claims.
At 12:45 p.m., Fred Saluga will speak on Bigfoot and the paranormal. He is a former law enforcement officer. He estimates he has investigated several thousand UFO/Bigfoot reports since the 1970’s.
At 2:15 p.m., Stan Gordon will speak on Bigfoot and other odd creatures. He was trained as an electronics technician specializing in radio communications. He is the primary investigator of the Dec. 9, 1965 UFO crash-recovery incident that occurred near Kecksburg.
At 3:45 p.m., Dave Rupert, who has done extensive research on Bigfoot encounters throughout the Pennsylvania area and who is one of the founders of the group Legend Hunters, will present his talk. He will be discussing the paranormal and Bigfoot research.
At 5:15 p.m., Eric Altman, an investigator and principal host and executive producer of “Beyond the Edge Radio,” will speak. He’s been lecturing on the subject of Bigfoot and other Cryptids across the Eastern and Midwestern United States at Cryptozoology and Paranormal Conferences for the past 15 years. He is a nationally recognized and respected figure in Cryptozoology.
At 6:15 p.m., the theater will be cleared for the movie, Mountain Devil – The Search for Frank Peterson. The movie will begin at 7 p.m.

Originally found in Penn’s Woods, the fisher has had an interesting journey to become re-established in today’s forest. Learn about this fur-bearing predator and about conservation efforts that have led to the possibility of seeing one in almost any part of PA.

Wildlife Signs at Elk Country Visitor Center
On Saturday, May 24, you can learn how to recognize the signs of wildlife in elk country. Whether you are a hiker, a hunter or an explorer to locate a certain bird or mammal, often all you may find is some woodland evidence, or “sign.”
If you become proficient in recognizing these signs, it will enhance your outdoor experience. You can enjoy a “Wildlife Sign Make & Take Project” following the presentation. At 1 p.m. in the Discovery Room.

Blue Card Series Premiere, Reitz Theater
Blue Card Series was filmed locally in DuBois, Brockway and Port Allegany. The premiere will feature all five episodes of the web series, which follows a young man who turns to a life of crime in order to survive.
The premiere is Saturday, May 24 at 7:3 p.m. The Crime Drama Series was written and directed by local filmmaker Vincent Barnard and produced by Craig Inzana. Tickets are $5.

Upper West Branch Susquehanna River Poker Paddle Run
The best poker hand wins the grand prize. There’s a nine-mile canoe/kayak trip on the scenic West Branch of the Susquehanna River from the Curwensville Community Center to Lower Witmer Park.
The day includes: prizes, music, lunch and T-shirts. The entry fee is $25 per person. You can check in at the Community Center, starting at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Clearfield Writing Community Workshop
The Market Street Gallery
The Clearfield Writing Community is dedicated to the avid writers of Clearfield County who are interested in improving their skills, getting tips and information from other writers and getting their work out into the public.
They provide information and educational tools for all serious writers in the area who hope to achieve publication. A Facebook page is established for members to plan meetings and events, post their work, critique others and generally encourage one another to write and create.
