Mary Jo Mandel, 85, of Philipsburg died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Penn Highlands, DuBois.
Born Dec. 22, 1928 in Lumber City, she was the daughter of the late Sheridan and Josephine (Wise) McKeown. She married Raymond Mandel on June 18, 1955 in Grampian; he preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1993.
Mrs. Mandel was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg. She was a registered nurse and had worked at the Philipsburg State General Hospital and later for the Clearfield Home Health until retiring.
Mrs. Mandel was a 1947 graduate of the St. Francis High School in Clearfield. She was a 1950 graduate of the Philipsburg State General Hospital School of Nursing.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James McKeown, Patrick McKeown and John “Barry” McKeown.
Mrs. Mandel is survived by a sister, Leah Quarry of Grampian; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin to whom she was especially close, Janice Knight and her husband, Ron of Sugar Loaf.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg. Burial will be at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Grampian.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
