HARRISBURG – Veterans from two local municipalities would be memorialized under legislation sponsored by State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk). House Bill 1135 may now be taken up by the state Senate following unanimous passage by the House.
“Members of the Penfield and Johnsonburg communities have reached out to me and expressed a desire to have their local veterans honored in this manner. The Huston Township supervisors and Johnsonburg Borough Council both passed resolutions requesting these designations,” Gabler said.
“It is and always has been a pleasure working with leaders in local communities, and I eagerly look forward to working with the state Senate to send this bill to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.”
Under Gabler’s legislation, the Route 153 Bridge over the Bennett Branch in Clearfield County would be designated the Huston Township Veterans Memorial Bridge, and Route 219 in Elk County would be known as the Veterans of Johnsonburg Bypass.
“As we approach Memorial Day, we are reminded of the many liberties we enjoy and the men and women who made the supreme sacrifice so we can enjoy them,” added Gabler. “These designations will serve as a year-round reminder of those very same sacrifices.”
