Library Announces “Investing & Connecting Public Computer Launch”

CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library would like to announce the upcoming “Investing & Connecting Public Computer Launch” on May 28, beginning at 4 p.m.

The public can join the library in recognizing Clearfield Bank & Trust Company, CNB Bank and Northwest Savings Bank for supporting the library and providing the funding for the public library computer replacement.

The event will showcase the new computers available for area library users and honors the financial institutions that funded the project. Light refreshments will be served.

In the fall of 2013, the Public Access Computer Project was initiated to replace the outdated computers available for public use.  The project plan outlined the demand for technology services, communicated the amount of funding required and presented an opportunity to partner with the library to provide financial literacy programs for the community.  The appeal resulted in financial support to cover the full costs of the hardware replacement, according to Paula Collin, library director.

The outcome, she said, was the computer replacement project and upcoming financial literacy-themed events that will be offered at the Shaw Public Library.  During the summer and fall, she said bank representatives from the three project supporters will present programs for all age various groups.

Each program, Collins said, is designed to educate and inform area residents on financial topics, increase knowledge of consumer issues and solutions and promote the importance of overall financial wellness.

The Public Access Computer Replacement Project supports the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative to promote the five types of literacy – basic, information, civic and social, health, and financial.

“I am very grateful to Clearfield Bank & Trust Company, CNB Bank and Northwest Savings Bank for financing this project,” said Collins. “Their generosity supports our goal to increase digital literacy and positively impact the lives of the community.”
