STATE COLLEGE – Preservation work is continuing on a Route 322 bridge that spans Galbraith Run near Boalsburg, with an update noted below.
Once rehabilitation work is complete, area drivers will enjoy safer travel on bridges that will remain in service for years to come.
During the week of May 19, the contractor will be milling the existing concrete bridge deck and performing concrete deck repairs. That work will be followed by the installation of a waterproof membrane, paving and line painting.
Daylight traffic control will reduce the roadway to a single lane with an alternating traffic pattern enforced by flaggers. Abutment repairs will be made after mid-June and will not impact traffic. All work is weather and schedule dependent.
This work is part of a $2.2 million contract to preserve four bridges in Centre County. Those bridges include Route 3040 in Julian, Route 64 near the village of Nittany in Walker Township, and an overpass bridge on westbound Route 322 in Worth Township.
Work on the Julian Bridge is ongoing. Work on the other two bridges will take place later this year.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this project, which is expected to finish in October. Overall work will include beam rehabilitation, deck and concrete repairs, guide rail updates, roadway paving, and pavement markings.
An additional Route 322 bridge will see work starting this week. Crews will be installing work zone signage for a Route 322 bridge that spans Sinking Creek near the SPCA, east of Boalsburg.
Beginning Wednesday, crews will set temporary barrier and paint roadway lines in order to shift traffic away from the work area on the bridge. During the barrier placement on Wednesday, an alternating traffic pattern will be enforced by flaggers.
Once the barrier is set, a 10-foot width restriction will be in place until Aug. 21. Work will include structure repairs, beam encapsulation, and miscellaneous repairs.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, move through work zones with caution and always buckle up.
