Charles David Welker Sr., 77, of Glen Richey died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at DuBois Penn Highlands after a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 8, 1937 in Clearfield, he was the son of John Hugh and Nellie Irene (Angelo) Welker. Mr. Welker was a self-employed contractor and owned and operated C.D. Welker Contracting.

He was also a vendor at area flea markets for a number of years.  He was a proud veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

He was a host for the Tri-State Sharing (Food Distribution) through the 1990’s. He was a member of the Susquehanna Antique Machinery Association in Luthersburg and an original member of the Glen Richey Volunteer Fire Company.

On Aug. 23, 1958 in Glen Richey, he wed the former Bonita Kay Wilsoncroft, who survives along with five children, Carrie Davis and her husband, Tim of Masury, Ohio; Carol Snedden and her husband, Richard of Brookville; Cindy Mays and her husband, Michael of Middlesex, NC; Clair Welker of Kasilof, Alaska; and Charles Welker of Clearfield and two daughters-in-law, Debra Welker of Meridian, Idaho and Dawn Welker of Kylertown.

He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, Gloria Gilligan and her husband, Josh and their sons, Tristan, Tyler and Riley; Robert Shaw and his wife, Melissa and their son, Aiden; David Shaw and his wife, Jennifer; Jessica Garvey  and her husband, David and their son, Liam; Daniel Davis and his daughter, Emmaleah and her fiancée, Ashley Larson; Frank Davis; Melissa Passmore and her husband, John and their son and daughter, Dayton and Alyssa; Michael Mays Jr. and his wife, Jennifer and their sons, Jacob and Darrell and daughter, Jessica and her children, Michael and Melody; Samantha Welker; Charles Welker Jr.; Christopher Welker; Elizabeth Welker and her son, Jude Shaffer; Gerald Smeal and his daughters, Jacqulyn and Janessa; Brian Zortman and his wife, Phaedra and their daughters, Raquel, Olivia and Evalyn; and Steven Smeal and his daughters, Ariel and Stephanie and his son, Alec and his fiancée, Christin Cooper.

He was considered a father, grandfather and friend by many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Franklin D. Welker; four infant siblings; an infant, daughter Debra K. Welker; an infant son, Charles D. Welker Jr; and twin infant granddaughters, Rebecca and Rachel Davis.

There will be no public visitation and private graveside services will be held in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Spring Valley, at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
