CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the fugitive as Adam Michael Rhodes, 26, of Tadpole Road, Pennsylvania Furnace. Rhodes was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Monday.
On Jan. 23, 2014, Patrolman Shawn Fye of the Clearfield Borough Police Department filed a criminal complaint against Rhodes. He charged Rhodes with theft by deception and bad checks.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police received a report from a Clearfield business that Rhodes had purchased two pistols. He had also paid with a check for $902.59.
When the business tried cashing the check, it was discovered there had been a stop payment issued on it. On Dec. 23, 2013, Rhodes was informed about the stop payment on the check. However, Rhodes failed to reimburse the business or to return the firearms.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 19, at which time Rhodes failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shaw stated that on Thursday, Rhodes voluntarily surrendered to deputies from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office. Shaw thanked the sheriff’s office for its assistance with this case.
