Samuel Sorbera, 92, of Clearfield died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Colonial Courtyard in Bedford. He was the husband of the late Josephine (Accordino) Sorbera, whom died Dec. 22, 2010.
Born April 16, 1922 in Gioiaso-Maria, Italy, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Rose (Ettaro) Sorbera.
Mr. Sorbera was a member of the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Clearfield. He was employed by Harbison & Walker, Clearfield.
He was a member of the Sons of Italy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater of operation.
Mr. Sorbera was the last living immigrant from Italy. He settled in Clearfield’s East End.
Surviving are a daughter and a son, Rose Marie Holly and her husband, Douglas of Debary, Fla. and Joseph A. Sorbera and his wife, Peggy of Broadlands, Va.; four grandchildren, Joanna Mercier, Joshua Holly, Anne Hanover and Elizabeth Joseph; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a great-grandson, Ryan Hanover; and three sisters and two brothers.
A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Samuel Sorbera will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield, with Msgr. Henry Krebs as celebrant.
A time to share memories and have an opportunity to view will be from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield. Military honors will be provided by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
