Marian B. Schalk, 91, of Curwensville died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Penn Highlands Dubois Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
Born Nov. 12, 1922, she was the daughter of William J. and Elizabeth (Sandri) Bartell. She was a homemaker and was retired from the Curwensville Area School District as payroll clerk.
She was a Girl Scout leader. She was also a member of the Curwensville Alumni Association, where she served as a long-time reservation chairperson.
On Oct. 15, 1947, she wed Albert Clyde Schalk Jr., who preceded her in death in 1963. She was also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dick Bartell and his twin sister, Dorothy Briggs; and another sister, Melva Shick; and a son-in-law, William Wingard
She is survived by three daughters, Betsy Swanson and her husband, Bill of Carlisle, Susan Wingard of Curwensville and Joyce Shirley and her husband, Dan of Indiana; six grandchildren, Lori Swanson, Bill Swanson and his wife, Erin, Brian Wingard and his wife, Laura, Kris Wingard, Scott Shirley and Lisa Shirley.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Colene Bartell of Bemus Point NY; a cousin, Carolyn Rowles and her husband, Hildred of Curwensville; and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of Mrs. Schalk, there will be no public viewing or services. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
