Donald L. ‘Doggie’ Mann, 91, of Clearfield died Monday, April 28, 2014 at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.

He was born Oct. 24, 1922, a son of the late William P. and Rose (Verbeck) Mann.

He formerly operated Mann’s Esso Station. He was an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus and sold Shaklee products from his booth at the Clearfield County Fair.

He was a member of St. the Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, where he served as a lector. A World War II veteran, he served in the war in the Pacific, surviving 35 B-29 missions flying out of Saipan.

He was a member of Clearfield’s first undefeated football team, the 1939 Clearfield Bison. He was a long-time member of the American Legion and volunteered for years with bingo at the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Mann and his wife, Frances, were great dancers who loved to polka and they met on the dance floor. He worked tirelessly on promoting past Bloodmobile drives in Clearfield, raising the awareness of the need for blood donors. He is also donating his body for medical research.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Frances (Nolan) Mann. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Lee, Leslie, Pat and Hobey Mann and four sisters, Janette Moore, Sister Rose Evelyn Mann (Irene), Marjorie McGoey and Catherine Reilly.

He and his wife hosted many holiday dinners and pre-Mann reunion parties, so he is revered by his many surviving nieces and nephews. It was his mission to hold the Will Mann family together through the years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield, or to the charity of one’s choice.
