State police at Clearfield
- On Wednesday, officials at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale conducted a random search of an inmate’s cell. Their search turned up a seven-inch weapon that was made from fencing material and sharpened to a point. The weapon, state police said, was found among the inmate’s personal belongings. State police noted the incident remains under investigation at this time.
- An incident of simple assault/harassment occurred Wednesday on Hannah Street in Houtzdale Borough. During the incident, a 44-year-old Houtzdale man and the victim engaged in a verbal argument that turned into a physical altercation. The man allegedly shoved the victim into a wall and punched her in the face/head, causing her left cheek and ear area to swell up. The victim also allegedly sustained red marks on her neck and chin area. The man was charged with simple assault and harassment and lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
- An incident of DUI occurred April 26 in the area of state Route 53 and Shoff Lane in Bigler Township. During the incident, a 32-year-old Madera woman was stopped for several traffic violations and found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested at the scene and transported to the Clearfield barracks for testing and processing. DUI and related charges will be filed through the district court.
- On April 26, state police received a report about a missing juvenile in the area of Cressview and Cherry streets in Irvona Borough. During the investigation, an 18-year-old Tyrone man was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The man was arrested for possession of drugs and paraphernalia; the charges will be filed through the district court.
State police at Philipsburg
- On April 18, state police were contacted by their Megan’s Law Section, which requested an investigation into a 30-year-old Philipsburg man. The man, state police said, failed to comply with registration requirements; the incident remains under investigation at this time.
State police at Ridgway
- An incident of retail theft occurred April 26 at the Bennett’s Valley Pharmacy in Jay Township. Further, a 43-year-old Weedville woman concealed approximately $688.70 worth of merchandise and exited the store without paying. State police noted that approximately $416.55 worth of merchandise was recovered and returned to the owner.
Clearfield Borough
- Police cited a 43-year-old Clearfield woman for a retail theft incident that occurred at the J.G. Food Warehouse. The woman was observed by employees placing food items in her purse and detained when she left the store without paying for them. Her purse, police said, contained more than $38 in merchandise.
Lawrence Township
- Police received a report about a psychological emergency at a Patton Street residence.
- Police assisted Children, Youth and Family Services at a Valley View Drive residence.
- Police received a report about a computer allegedly being hacked in the area of Park Avenue Extension.
- Police received a report about an alleged credit card fraud in the area of Smith Street.
- Police received a report about a traffic complaint in the Plymptonville area. However, police were unable to locate the vehicle.
- Police received a report about lost medication in the area of McDonalds on South Second Street.
- Police received a report about an animal complaint along the Old Erie Pike. Further, a bear had been in a resident’s garbage. Police stayed at the scene until the resident was able to clean the roadway.
DuBois City
- On Wednesday, police contacted the Clepper Bus Service upon request. While speaking to the owner, police learned a bus driver was involved in an incident with a middle school juvenile and her father. The bus driver dropped off the juvenile who told him to wait as her father wanted to speak with him. The bus driver explained he could not wait, and the juvenile allegedly stood in front of the bus to prevent him from leaving her stop. He said at that point, her father approached the window and allegedly used obscene language toward him. Police contacted the juvenile’s father who denied using obscene language during the verbal exchange. The incident, police said, remains under investigation, and charges are currently pending.
- On Wednesday, police received a report about a 9-1-1 hang-up call at a business in the 200 block of Hanne Court. Upon arrival police found there were phone problems and everything was OK.
- On Wednesday, police received a report about an incident of harassment in the 100 block of East Washington Avenue. The victim told police that he’d been receiving multiple text messages from an unknown person who was asking if he “needed any weed.” He provided police with the phone number; the incident remains under investigation.
- On Wednesday, police received a report about suspicious people from the Penn State DuBois police. Police were advised that multiple students reported that two unknown males in a Chevrolet S-10 pick-up were stopping people near campus and asking about picking up their garbage. Police checked the area but couldn’t locate the pick-up.
- On Wednesday, police received a report about a 9-1-1 hang-up call at the DuBois Area Middle School. Upon arrival police spoke with custodians inside the school and learned the only people were in the second-floor computer lab. Police subsequently spoke with a teacher who advised everything was OK. The teacher told police two students used the telephone to contact their parents about transportation home.
