TYRONE — Senior Megan Vanderburgh drove in six runs with three extra base hits, including a grand slam home run while classmate Rachel Hoffman belted four hits and pitched a one-hitter to propel the Clearfield Area High School softball team rolled to a 15-1 Mercy Rule victory over Tyrone at the Harry Sickler Sports Complex Monday.
Shackled for four innings by Ashley Tepsic, the Lady Bison erupted for 12 of their 16 hits and all of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings to end a three-game slide to reach the halfway mark of the season at 3-7.
Vanderburgh doubled and tripled for RBIs in the eight-run fifth and then capped the seven-run sixth with her inside-the-park homer, the first of her four-year career, to right-center field.
Hoffman extended her two-season hitting streak to 13 games with a 4-for-4 performance that included a pair of triples.
Also contributing to the Clearfield attack were Lauren Butler with her first three-hit effort and Karlie Lewis and Raeleigh Redden with a single and a double apiece.
Butler and Redden each had two RBIs.
In the circle, Hoffman struck out six and walked two.
Tyrone’s lone hit was Emily Long’s leadoff single in the first inning. She scored on a two-out misplay.
Weather permitting, the Lady Bison will take their 3-6 Mountain League record to Bellefonte Tuesday and host Philipsburg-Osceola in another make-up game Wednesday.
