Obituary Notice: William J. Watson

William J. Watson, 78, of Philipsburg died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.

He was the son of the late Clair S. and Mary L. (Scott) Watson, born Aug. 30, 1935 in Philipsburg.  He married the former Dorothy “Sis” Johnson on Nov. 27, 1954 in Winchester, Va.; she survives at home.

Mr. Watson was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Philipsburg. He enjoyed walking and watching Pirates baseball. He was an avid civil war history enthusiast.

He was employed as an over-the-road truck driver until his retirement. He was a 1953 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Watson is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Grefe of Hysham, Mont.; four sons, Richard Watson and his wife, Christine of Culpeper, Va. and David Watson, Daniel Watson and his wife, Kelly and Douglas Watson, all of Philipsburg; three sisters, Anne Kolosky of Indiana, Sally Williams and her husband, Darl of Bainbridge and Mary Clare Snyder and her husband, Frank of Grampian; and a brother, Richard S. Watson and his wife, Joyce of Philipsburg.

He’s also survived by nine grandchildren, Lori, Emily, Olivia, Sophie, Cameron and Courtney Watson; Aimee Finnigan; Candace Pirritano; and Garrett Grefe; a great-granddaughter, Cracie Finnigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg, with the Rev. Mark Thumma officiating.  Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.

There will be no public visitation.
