The Rev. Thomas H. Irwin Jr., 78, of Smithmill died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at his residence.
Born Feb. 19, 1936, his was a son of Irene Nagle and Thomas Henry Irwin Sr. He was a 1954 graduate of Susquehanna Township High School.
He attended Grace College and Messiah College. He then attended Moravian and Crozer Theological Seminary.
He proudly served the United Methodist Church for more than 45 years in Pennsylvania and the Central Pennsylvania United Methodist Conference Office in Harrisburg. He retired in 2001 from his position as the Altoona District superintendent.
He’s survived by his wife, Hazel Ann (Srock) Irwin; his children, Mark (Kelly) Hamm of Jim Thorp, Scott (Stephanie) Hamm of Abilene, Texas, Sue (Kevin) Canniff of Mechanicsburg, First Sgt. Leigh Ann (Lawrence) Conic of Lawton, Okla.; and his grandchildren, Madison and Landon Hamm, Maddison Canniff, Jade and Tarin Conic.
Also surviving are his brothers William (Linda) Irwin of Dillsburg and John (Lucy) Irwin of Villanova.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Ana Hallman, Beatric Gipe and Ethel Lyter.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 3 at the Hicks Memorial United Methodist Church, 1211 Third Ave., Duncansville. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sierra Leone Water and Development Ministries, 692 Koppenhaver Rd., Mifflintown, PA 17059 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
