CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Kody Clayton Best, 20, of Daisy Street, Clearfield. Best was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Monday.

On Nov. 20, 2013, Patrolman Nathan Curry of the Clearfield Borough Police Department filed a criminal complaint against Best. He charged Best with theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property; and criminal conspiracy.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Oct. 31, 2013, the Clearfield Borough police received a report about a theft from a motor vehicle on West Sixth Avenue. Upon investigation it was found that Best and two other individuals had unlawfully entered the victim’s vehicle and removed items valued at approximately $289.

It was also found the Best and the two individuals had broken into several others vehicles that were located in Clearfield Borough.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 22, at which time all charges were held for court. On April 8, Best failed to appear for plea and sentencing court, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Shaw stated that on Tuesday, Best voluntarily surrendered himself to deputies from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office. Best is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this case.
