Raymond Davidsen, 89, a resident of Philipsburg, died Monday, April 28, 2014 at Windy Hill Village, a part of Presbyterian Senior Living.

Born May 8, 1924 in Rowland, he was a son of the late David and Ruth (Neilsen) Davidsen. He was a graduate of Hawley High School.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II as an aviation mechanic. After the war, he married Dorothy Janet Abel of Pittsburgh on Nov. 11, 1950.

After studying watchmaking and repair, he worked for a number of years at Jordan’s in Punxsutawney and later at Best Jewelers in Philipsburg. He also worked for Otis Elevators in Pittsburgh and spent time in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

He retired as a quality control inspector for Nuclide Corp. in State College. He and his wife enjoyed camping and were members of the Mountaineers Chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association.

During their years of camping, they stayed in all of the lower 48 states and also Alaska. To complete visiting all the states, they went on one of Sheldon Sharpless’ trips to Hawaii. In addition to camping, they also enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Chinklacamoose Squares and the 022 Camper Dancers Club.

He also enjoyed fishing, drawing with pastels and collecting stamps. He was a Protestant by faith and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Philipsburg, where he served on a number of boards and also taught some adult Sunday school classes.

In addition to his wife, he’s survived by a son Garry Davidsen and his wife, Karen of Smithmill; a daughter, Lori Rodkey and her husband, Paul of Frenchville; three grandsons, Todd, Adam and Ryan Reese; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Davidsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Samuel G. Strohm and the Rev. William H. Moore officiating.

Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.
