CCAAA Participates in National Campaign
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. (CCAAA), along with six local officials, participated in Community Champions week, formerly known as Mayors for Meals. This is part of the national March for Meals campaign, organized by the Meals on Wheels Association of America and designed to raise awareness for senior hunger.
Man Pleads Guilty to Striking Woman’s Vehicle, Leading Police on Chase
CLEARFIELD – A Reynoldsville man who struck a woman’s vehicle with an ax before leading police on a chase pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court.
BSI Series Concludes with Barton’s Review
CLEARFIELD – The American Association of University Women: Books-Sandwiched-In 2014 series came to an end on March 26 at the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library. A local resident and retired educator, Peg Barton, reviewed a historical mystery book entitled Mr. Churchill’s Secretary: a Maggie Hope Mystery.
FBI Impersonator Gets State Prison
CLEARFIELD – A North Carolina man accused of impersonating an FBI agent was sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Richard Allen Gilbert, 48, who also had a local address in West Decatur, pleaded guilty to theft by deception and impersonating a public servant in three cases. In the third case, he also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and driving under suspension. Judge Paul Cherry sentenced him to one to five years in state prison. He was fined $217 plus costs and must pay restitution of more than $17,000.
PA Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rates to Decline for Some Employers Starting in April
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Departments of Insurance and Labor & Industry has announced a 5.15 percent workers’ compensation rate reduction, effective April 1, saving millions of dollars for many Pennsylvania employers.
Clearfield Police and PSP Focus on School Zone Speeders
CLEARFIELD – Fifteen citations were issued during a special School Zone speed enforcement detail in Clearfield Borough. The police department recently teamed up with the Pennsylvania State Police to conduct the detail near the St. Francis Elementary School.
Jury: Unanimous Verdicts Not Possible on All Charges in Road Rage Case
CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, jurors deliberated a road rage incident involving a gun for nearly two hours before having their foreperson advise the court unanimous verdicts couldn’t be reached on all of the charges. Judge Paul E. Cherry presided over the trial.
Scott V. Moldenhauer, 44, of DuBois was charged with three counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person and one count each of terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct.
April 4 is Deadline for LT Property Condemnations
CLEARFIELD – Lawrence Township Supervisors are reminding residents included in the Phase III Sewage Project that April 4 is the deadline for signing of easements.
Township Solicitor James Naddeo will file condemnations at the Clearfield County Courthouse for a “Declaration of Taking” for the remaining unsigned easements so that the project can proceed.
Man Sentenced in Sexual Assault Case
CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old has been sentenced in Clearfield County Court.
Gregory A. Laird, 51, 30 Servomation Dr., Clearfield, pleaded guilty to two counts of corruption of minors. He was sentenced to nine months to two years less one day in jail and five years consecutive probation. He was fined $750 plus costs.

CMA Issues Drinking Water Warning
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Municipal Authority has issued a drinking water warning for the Montgomery Water Supply. Residents are advised to boil their water before using due to an increased risk for microbial contamination.
Former Glen Hope Firefighter Accused of Arson
GLEN HOPE – A former volunteer firefighter has been accused of two arsons on Dec. 23, 2013 at 6369 Glen Hope Blvd., according to the state police at Clearfield.

HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett yesterday held a Healthy Pennsylvania Public Health Summit in Harrisburg, bringing together more than 250 individuals and organizations to share both public health challenges and current best practices.
DEP Extends PA Waste Deadline Again
CLEARFIELD – The state Department of Environmental Protection has granted PA Waste LLC an extension until Nov. 21 to respond to the more than 70 deficiencies identified within its proposed Camp Hope Run landfill permit.
LTPD Awarded Grants; Officer Gets Promotion
CLEARFIELD – Lawrence Township Police Chief Mark Brooks reported at Tuesday night’s supervisors meeting regarding three grants the department had been awarded. Brooks also asked the supervisors to approve the promotion of Officer Crystal Panebianco to the vacant position of Junior Sergeant.
Gabler Files Appeal to Brady Township Injection Well Permit
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) is petitioning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to overturn the permit issued in February for an injection well in Brady Township.
In a letter dated March 12, Gabler questioned the data used to evaluate the well’s potential impact on local drinking water sources and called for the permit to be denied. Here are excerpts from Gabler’s letter to the EPA:
