John R. Firkey, 70, of Philipsburg died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at his residence. Born Dec. 15, 1943, he was the son of the late Raymond and Marion Showers Firkey.
Mr. Firkey was a graduate of the Philipsburg High School in the class of 1961. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Firkey was employed by EM Brown Inc. and retired from the State Correctional Institution at Rockview.
He was married to Delores A. Ropchock Firkey. She survives in Philipsburg. He’s also survived by a sister, Shirley Shaw and her husband, Philip of West Decatur.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Ann Maines.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Allport Cemetery with the Rev. Van Dorman officiating. There will not be any public visitation.
