Gloria Hope Rowles, 84, a resident of the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home and formerly of Olanta, died Wednesday, March 5, 2013 at the Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 31, 1929 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of Howard and Edith (Holt) Rowles.

Mrs. Rowles was an elementary school teacher and taught in Kellytown, Maple Run before working in the Clearfield Area School District first at Woodland Elementary and then last at the Leonard Grade Elementary School where she retired from.

She was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Olanta, the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Clearfield Education Association, the Clearfield Eastern Star and Amaranth of Clearfield.

On July 8, 1950 in Illinois, she wed William A. Rowles, who preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2000.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carol Dearborn.

Surviving are three children, Maureen Wirth and her husband, Edward of Aurora, Colo., Vernon H. Rowles and his wife, Kim of Harrisburg and Kevin J. Rowles of Ohio.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Julie, Darren, Kara and Ian; a great-grandson, Leo; and a sister, Gay Hummel of Clearfield.

Memorial services for Gloria Rowles will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery, Olanta.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Clearfield County SPCA.
