Helen Marie Hale, 94, a resident of Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and formerly of Curwensville, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at the center.
Born Jan. 12, 1920 in Goshen, she was the daughter of Oscar and Martha (Taylor) Hoyt. She was then raised by her adoptive parents, James E. and Anne (Hoyt) McKenrick.
She had been employed by the former silk mill in Curwensville and the former Park Hotel in Curwensville. She was retired from the former CSB Bank, now Northwest Savings Bank, in the janitorial staff.
She was a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville. She was an avid bingo player.
She had wed John P. Hale, who preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1981.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, George and Thomas Hoyt and William, Smith, Boyd and Ernest McKenrick; and four sisters, Roxanna Hoyt Schultz, Mary Hoyt Evans, Anne Hoyt Parlavechio and Louise McKenrick Peterman. She was the last member of her generation.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee Jr. as celebrant. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville when the procession will depart for the church.
A Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by the reciting of the Rosary by members of St. Timothy Altar and Rosary Society at 5:45 p.m., both at the funeral home.
