CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. (CCAAA), along with six local officials, participated in Community Champions week, formerly known as Mayors for Meals. This is part of the national March for Meals campaign, organized by the Meals on Wheels Association of America and designed to raise awareness for senior hunger.

This year, six local officials took time to hand deliver meals and visit consumers throughout Clearfield County.  Participating officials include Sheriff Wes Thurston, Mayor Tom Carfley of Curwensville, Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen, Mayor James Schell of Clearfield, Commissioner John Sobel and Mayor Gary Gilbert of DuBois.  They joined more than 2,400 other government officials throughout the nation who took part in this national program.

“This is the sixth year we have participated in this program to raise awareness for senior hunger. Just in Clearfield County alone, our Meals on Wheels and More program serves nearly 145,000 meals to more than 1,000 consumers per year.  In addition, more than 28,000 meals per year are served at our senior centers. We want to urge people of Clearfield County to support the Meals on Wheels & More Program through our local fundraisers. The public’s support is essential to meeting the needs of these older consumers,” said Rikki Ross, director of planning & marketing for CCAAA.

“The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging would like to thank all the officials for donating their time and making this Community Champions week possible. The consumers always enjoy the opportunity to meet and visit with their local officials.”
