Betty J. (Phillips) Barto, 87, of Smithmill died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the St. Clair Hospital, Mount Lebanon.
Born April 22, 1926 in West Decatur, she was the daughter of the Clyde and Jennie May (Sharpless) Phillips. She was a 1944 graduate of the former Woodward Township High School.
She was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church. She was a choir member for 50 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family.
On April 20, 1948 at the Houtzdale Presbyterian Church, she married Peter Barto, who preceded her in death on July 10, 2010.
She’s survived by three children, the Rev. Ronald Eugene (Barbara) Barto of Johnstown, Victoria (Keith) Williams of South Park and Mary Elizabeth (Joseph) Tauber of Carmel, Ind. and six grandchildren, Matthew Williams, Kristin Williams, Brigette Barto, Kyle Barto, Angela Tauber and Abigail Tauber.
She’s also survived by a sister and a brother, Lois Temchak (Frank) of Viola and Donald Phillips of Hartford, Conn. and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Clyde Phillips, Ida Mae Bock and Jean Savage.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kruise Funeral Home with Pastor Clare L. Pannebaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Cemetery, Ramey.
