CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the fugitive as Brandon Scott Sass, 23, of Susquehanna Avenue, Hyde. Sass was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on March 24.
On Aug. 20, 2013, Chief David R. Johnston of the Curwensville Borough Police Department filed a criminal complaint against Sass. He charged Sass with access device fraud (F3), receiving stolen property and access device fraud (M3).
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Aug. 7, 2012, the Curwensville Borough Police Department received a report about the theft of several personal checks. Upon investigation it was found that Sass had unlawfully cashed three of the victim’s checks and had received approximately $2,419.78. It was also found that Sass had attempted to cash a fourth check but was denied by the bank.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 23, 2013, at which time all charges were held for court. On March 20, Sass failed to appear at criminal call and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shaw stated that an anonymous tip to the Clearfield County Crime Stoppers provided the location of Sass. On Wednesday, deputies from the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Sass, and he was taken into custody without incident. Sass is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance with this case.
