CLARION – On March 31, Clarion University’s “Communiversity” Grow Clarion Program will present “The Future’s in the Dirt: How Local Food Can Transform Local Economies,” a presentation by author Ben Hewitt.
There will be two opportunities to hear Hewitt’s presentation:
- 3 p.m. at Carlson Library, Level A, Clarion University
- 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 350 Main St., Clarion
All are welcome to attend this free event.
Hewitt tells the story of Hardwick, VT, the small town at the center of his best-selling book, “The Town That Food Saved.” Over the past five years, Hardwick has revitalized its local economy and reinvigorated its small downtown via the creation of numerous small-scale businesses rooted in sustainable agriculture.
Thoughtful, inspiring, entertaining and humorous, Hewitt’s presentation explores both the potential and the challenges inherent in creating localized food systems that benefit all.
Hewitt was born and currently resides in northern Vermont, where he writes and operates a diversified, 40-acre organic hill farm with his wife and two sons. He is the author of best-selling books, “The Town That Food Saved: How One Community Found Vitality in Local Food,” and “Making Supper Safe: One Man’s Quest to Learn the Truth About Food Safety.”
