CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library is currently accepting registrations for Story Garden, a five-week story session, beginning April 8. Children ages 6 months through 5 years are invited to participate in the series of special events held each Tuesday morning or afternoon.
The PA Forward initiative, launched by the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) in 2012, supports the efforts of libraries across the state as leaders in community education. Children will experience at least one of the five literacies as part of the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative each week of the spring story session.
On April 8, the spring story session begins with “Make New Friends/Spring Games.” Children will hear stories about the importance of friendship and play a variety of outdoor games and activities with their new friends, weather permitting.
The annual Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child celebration will be held on April 15. The program is sponsored by the Clearfield Kiwanis organization. Each participating family will receive a copy of the book Stripes of All Types by Susan Stockdale. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration is limited for this program.
April 22 will feature a celebration in honor of Earth Day. Tammy’s Gardens will present information about plants and conducting a planting activity with all children in attendance.
On April 29, the series of special events will continue with “Cavity Free Kids” from AmeriHealth Caritas. Children will learn that teeth are cool while a representative from the organization will present information on tooth brushing, healthy foods, sugar bugs, what it is like to go to the dentist’s office and much more.
Story Garden will conclude on May 6 when the Clearfield Borough Police Department and PennDOT presents “Bike Safety.” Families will be offered tips to keep children safe while they are learning to ride a bicycle.
Each Tuesday program will be offered from 10:30 a.m. until 11: 30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Families must register for each special event individually and may choose which session time works best for their busy schedule.
A calendar with dates and times for each program is also available at the front desk.
