CENTRE COUNTY – On behalf of Gov. Tom Corbett, PennDOT has announced that work to preserve four bridges in Centre County will begin Tuesday. Once rehabilitation work is complete, area drivers will enjoy safer travel on bridges that will remain in service for many years to come.
The bridges are located in Harris, Huston, Walker and Worth townships. Overall work includes beam rehabilitation, deck work, concrete repairs, guide rail installation, paving and painting of pavement markings.
Work will begin on a bridge spanning Galbraith Run on Route 322, just east of Boalsburg, on Tuesday. The contractor will begin by placing long-term signage for the project.
On March 25, a 10-foot width restriction will begin in this area of Route 322, and a temporary barrier will be installed. Bridge repairs will start after the barrier is placed.
Work will start Thursday, on Route 3040 (Alternate Route 220) in Julian at the intersection with Beaver Road. The contractor will set up long-term signage and temporary traffic signals for the project.
The signal will remain in flash mode until March 25, when it will be activated, and a temporary barrier will be installed. Bridge repairs will start after the barrier is placed.
The two other structures on this contract include:
- A bridge on Route 64 near Nittany in Walker Township.
- An overpass bridge on westbound Route 322 in Worth Township near the Reese Hollow Road/East Mountain Road Exit.
PennDOT will issue a schedule update on work progress as repair activity moves to each location. The contractor for this $2.2 million job is Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College. All work is expected to finish in October. All work is weather and schedule dependent. Drivers are reminded to obey the speed limit and always buckle up.
