CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced Clearfield County’s Fugitive of the Week.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Edward Matthew Schmidt Jr., 33, of Patton Street, Clearfield. Schmidt is wanted for failure to appear at plea and sentencing court on Feb. 25.

On Sept. 26, 2013, Patrolman Elliot Neeper of the Lawrence Township Police Department filed a criminal complaint against Schmidt. He charged Schmidt with theft of leased property and receiving stolen property.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Sept. 11, 2013, police received a report about the theft of leased property from a business located on Daisy Street, Clearfield. Upon investigation it was found that Schmidt had leased merchandise from the business but failed to make approximately $472.64 worth of payments for the item. Schmidt failed to return the property to the business and to pay the outstanding balance for the device.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 6, 2013, at which time all charges were held for court. On Feb. 25, Schmidt failed to appear at plea and sentencing court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Schmidt is described as a Caucasian male who stands 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He has blue eyes and brown hair.

Anyone with knowledge of Schmidt’s location is asked to call Clearfield County Crime Stoppers at 800-376-4700. All calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential.
