CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man accused of running from police was sentenced to state prison during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Shawn Paul Cutlip, 29, 42 Scribner Ave., DuBois, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to flight to avoid apprehension in one case, criminal trespass, false imprisonment, criminal mischief in a second case, criminal trespass in a third case and retail theft in a fourth case.
He also pleaded guilty to summary offenses of driving under suspension-DUI related in three of these cases. He was sentenced to three to six years in state prison and fined $1,507 plus costs. Cutlip must also pay restitution of more than $700.
According to the affidavit of probable cause in the first case, on Oct. 21, a witness saw Cutlip, who she knew had a warrant for his arrest, at the Falls Creek Sheetz. She contacted police with information on what Cutlip was driving and where he was headed.
Police then found him at the Choice Cigarette Outlet store in DuBois at the fuel pumps. An officer pulled his vehicle in behind Cutlip’s vehicle. When Cutlip exited the store, he pulled a drawstring on his hooded sweatshirt in an attempt to hide his face. The officer yelled for Cutlip to stop but instead he ran around the building and across state Route 219 into a wooded area across from the railroad tracks.
According to the affidavit in the second case, on Oct. 20, Cutlip broke the locked front door of a residence to gain entry to a mud room of a residence. Once inside he banged on the door, threatening to kick it in if the victim did not come out. When she did come out, he grabbed her by the left wrist, picked her up and put her in his vehicle. He drove her to Luthersburg Park, where she was afraid to get out of the vehicle.
She told police she did not go with him willingly. She was afraid he would hurt her because he has hurt her in the past.
The criminal complaint in the third case states that on Oct. 21 the victim’s step-father was painting a room in the second floor of his home when he heard someone enter downstairs. He then heard Cutlip yelling for the victim. Cutlip went upstairs and looked in a bedroom. He then ran down the steps yelling something. He went to the door and saw Cutlip get into the driver’s seat of his vehicle and drive away.
