PENFIELD – “Spring wildfire season” occurs after most of the snow has melted and before the trees get fully-leafed out. This is the time of year when most of Pennsylvania’s wildfires occur, according to Wayne Wynick, assistant district forester.

Sunealitis Sentenced to State Prison for Operating Meth Lab

CLEARFIELD – A 53-year-old DuBois man, Steven Sunealitis, has been sentenced to state prison for operating a methamphetamine lab at his residence, according to Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr.

DuBois Couple Arrested for Burglaries at Local Gun Stores

CLEARFIELD – A DuBois couple has been arrested for three burglaries at local gun stores as part of Operation Sportsmen’s Delight, announced Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. at a news conference this afternoon.

Commissioners Seek Comprehensive Review of Disposal Injection Well Permit

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners are submitting a letter requesting reconsideration of the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to approve the construction of a disposal injection well in Brady Township.

Burglary Suspects Sold Guns for Money, Drugs

CLEARFIELD – Yesterday, a DuBois couple was arrested for three burglaries at local gun stores as part of Operation Sportsmen’s Delight. The couple allegedly committed the burglary spree in order to sell the firearms outside of Clearfield County for money and or drugs, according to court documents.

DuBois Country Club Fire Ruled Accidental

DUBOIS – A fire that destroyed the DuBois Country Club on Feb. 24 has been ruled accidental in nature, reported the state police at DuBois. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) conducted a joint investigation into the fire.

Men Accused of Girard-Goshen Burglary Appear in Court

CLEARFIELD – Two men accused of breaking into a local elementary school have appeared in colloquy court in Clearfield County.

Samuel Dean Kovach, 25, and Allen Wayne Robison III, 31, both of 604 W. Front St., Clearfield, are charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy and criminal mischief in connection with a burglary at the Girard-Goshen Elementary School in September.

County Considering Voting Precinct Changes

CLEARFIELD – The Board of Elections is currently considering relocating three voting precincts, announced Dawn Graham, director of elections, at this week’s Clearfield County Commissioners’ meeting.

PA Waste Seeks Extension to Respond to Deficiencies in Landfill Permit

CLEARFIELD – PA Waste LLC has requested another extension to respond to the more than 70 deficiencies identified by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) within its proposed Camp Hope Run landfill permit.

CNB Bank Unveils New Concept Banking Center

CLEARFIELD – Joseph B. Bower Jr., president and chief executive officer of CNB Bank, has introduced CNB’s new concept banking center in downtown Clearfield.

The entrance is now located at 31 S. Second St., which is on the corner of South Second and Cherry streets. The CNB building spans the entire block from Cherry Street to Market Street.

CCEDC Assumes Title of former Howe’s Leather Site

CURWENSVILLE – At a press conference yesterday, the Clearfield County Economic Development Corp. (CCEDC) officially assumed the title to the former Howe’s Leather Tannery site and accepted the residual waste impoundment closure bid that was submitted by Earthmovers Unlimited Inc.
